The weekend bombing in Paris and the recent bombing in Beirut are unavoidable topics. News of the events is on television news, for sure, but it is also online in every social media stream, where it may be accurate or not, and may be slanted. So our kids are hearing about it and some parents and teachers may be looking for ways to handle discussing the news.

Common Sense Media has posted a guide, Explaining the News to Our Kids, and it has some good tips that are differentiated by age.

Shootings, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, end-of-the-world predictions — even local news reports of missing kids and area shootings — all of this can be upsetting news even for adults, much less kids. In our 24/7 news world, it’s become nearly impossible to shield kids from distressing current events.
