Technology AND Teaching

by Jean Tower

I just finished reading Decisive, by Chip Heath and Dan Heath. The book is a helpful guide to overcoming common biases that trip us up when making decisions. One of the biases is that we often see decisions as either – or. Either I will do A or I will do B. The Heaths present several strategies for overcoming this bias, one of which is to think AND rather than OR. That struck a chord with me. I feel that too often technology in schools is set up as a false dichotomy – we can either have technology OR we can have great teachers. Why not AND?

great teaching
